A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS.
Our 4 Guiding Principles
Equal Playing Time
Youth players should have equal playing time in the first 3/4 of a game. In the last 1/4, the coach can place line-ups on the floor and substitute players as they wish.
Equal Skill Sets
All players on the team get equal exposure to instruction of basic skills regardless of the positoin they play. The aim is for each girl who leaves the Club to be able to play multiple positions in Secondary school.
Age Integration
Where possible, the Club creates opportunities for younger players to mix with older players during skills night and the summer, so they can challenge themseleves.
Year-Long Practice
The Club offers practices outside of the regular basketball season. These will be interspersed between ample periods of non-practice time so players can rest, stay committed and motivated.
The Warriors are guided by and adhere to the policies Basketball BC-Safe Sport Policy, which is committed to creating a sports environment that is accessible, inclusive, respects their participant's personal goals, and is free from all forms of Maltreatment.

The Warriors Club is a girls development team based on the Westshore, composed of dedicated, skilled coaches, parents willing to schedule basketball practices and games into family life, and players committed to becoming the best they can be.
Warriors teams play in Victoria’s Night League which is a developmental league for young basketball players aged 9-14. The Warriors Club focuses exclusively on developing girls teams, recruiting in Grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 from the Westshore.
David Wighton founded Warriors in 2009, after coaching an outstanding group of elementary girls but noticed, at the time, no SD62 students were playing in the Victoria Night League. Further, he determined that school teams that didn't have Night League graduates on their rosters were not strong enough to compete against schools that did.
Year by year, Wighton slowly built a thriving club working in a way that's different from most other girls' programs. Warriors was the first program in the Victoria area to practice seriously as a club during spring and summer. We deliberately combine age groups so that younger players can challenge themselves by playing with and against older girls.
The club has a history of strong success on the court. To date, seven Warriors teams have won Night League U13A or U15A championships. Twice, Warriors teams were first and second in the same A division. Twice, Warriors have placed three teams into the top eight of the U13 and U15 division. In 2018/19, four Warrior teams competed in the two A Divisions. Two were in U15A and two were in U13A. Twice our Night League Warriors teams have won bronze in the BC Provincial Club Championships. Consistency is a hallmark of the Warrior program.
A new Executive of local Westshore parents is taking on management and recruitment for this next era of Warriors.
